 Kierkegaard should not be viewed with suspicion, or as a threat or a distraction, but rather as a key contributor to the task of comprehending the tradition of Catholic theology and articulating the heart of that theology in today’s world. He should be viewed, in fact, as a kind of crypto-Catholic, who could plausibly have taken a path in life roughly similar to that of John Henry Newman, if he had lived longer.
